Nolan King

Biography

I am currently a senior at the University of Texas at Dallas and double majoring in Physics and Mathematics. My love for the natural sciences started in my high school physics class. After high school I spent 5 years working as an electronics technician in the United States Navy, but my love for physics led me to leave the navy and return to school. In 2016 I came to UTD and have been conducting research in biophysics and mathematical physics. My biophysics research has focused on the characterization of the electronic properties of DNA like single molecule devices. My mathematical physics research has focused on modeling semiclassical wave packet dynamics on a symplectic manifold. Additionally, I conducted research on Radio Frequency noise in the control and sensing subsystem of the LIGO Hanford interferometer for a summer. The local chapter of Society of Physics Students has been an importent part of my time at UTD, and I’m grateful for the opportunities it has provided to engage with incoming students and to facilitate STEM outreach to the public.
