This first week has kicked off what promises to be an exciting summer! It began at the American Center for physics in College Park. It was great to finally meet my fellow interns in person. After only a few short hours we were already becoming friends. Later that day we all had the amazing opportunity to have lunch with Nobel laureate John Mather. The next day was my first full day at NIST. This week has been a crash course in the fascinating theory of solid-state nanopores and, brace yourselves for a mouthful, metal oxide semi-conductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) and how these components have been used to push the limits of DNA sequencing technology. I have jumped head first into the intriguing fields of biological and solid state physics and I am loving it so far!
