This week at work was all about optimization and organization. I spent a good portion of my work week writing up programs to improve my work efficiency. Some of my programs used to take upwards of 3 hours to run just due to the amount of data that was needed for each process.

This past week has been a continued grind towards the end goal of my project: to make and test a sample of our infrared absorbing material.

This past week has brought a lot of realizations and progress in my work, as well as more opportunities to learn about NASA and meet other people in STEM.

This week was a short but jam packed week. I have made some progress in my research, but I have also spent the last few weeks barking up the wrong tree. After a week of long work days and toiling over my code, I believe I have a clearer idea about what my reasearch is producing.

Week four is over, and it’s been just as amazing as every other week so far. Most importantly, my project at NASA is finally starting to gain momentum.

This week I continued working on analyzing and understanding periodic density structures in the solar wind, now more specifically in pseudo-streamers. A pseudo-streamer is a stream of solar wind that does not have an electric current.

This week at NASA I was able to do some real science!  I began working with a computer program to analyze data of solar wind. In particular, we are looking for density structures in the wind that are periodic.

As the end of the third week hit, I realized that I have been starting to feel extremely comfortable in this new setting and new schedule.

Working a 9-5 job on the east coast is exactly how you’d expect: long commute, tons of pressure to do well and meet your goals, and always having something to do or somewhere to be. However, it’s everything I’d ever want and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

It has only been two weeks since I moved to the DC area and I have to say I’m loving it. There are free museums, beautiful monuments and memorials, street performers, great places to eat, and it’s within a few hours’ drive of so many different states.
