Gage DeZoort is a second-year Jefferson Scholar at the University of Virginia studying Physics (B.S.) and Engineering Science (B.S.). He hopes to compliment his physics education with the engineering science major, as it allows him to study Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, and other interesting topics like the Anthropology of Outer Space. Since last summer, Gage has worked on a number of projects related to the Mu2e experiment at the U.Va. High Energy Physics laboratory. In addition, he's spent time working as an intern for Senator Richard Shelby (AL). There, he conducted legislative research, attended Capitol Hearings, and even gave tours of the Capitol Building to Alabama constituents. His work in the Senate fueled his interest in engaging in science policy and advocacy outside of his scientific pursuits. As Secretary of the U.Va. SPS chapter, Gage built a new website for the SPS and keeps it updated with a myriad of resources for his peers. He hopes to bring this enthusiasm and community building to the Zone 4 as a whole.
