Coming from a family where mathematics was the topic of conversation at the dinner table, Nathan Prins is an enthusiast of education, culture, and physics. As an active member of SPS, Nathan has acted as president and vice president of Towson University’s chapter, participated on committees designated to organize and carry out large outreach events, and twice co-authored proposals for the Marsh M. White Award. Towson University’s chapter has been awarded the SPS Outstanding Chapter Award both years Nathan has been a member. As a member of the physics community, he has been involved in extensive research for the past two years, has presented at six professional conferences, and was awarded the William F. Pelham Award for Outstanding Junior. Nathan brings with him a unique array of experiences that make him an ideal teammate and an effective leader. He gained extensive leadership experience as the captain of a dive team at the National Aquarium in Baltimore where he directs a small team of divers tasked to operate technical equipment in the unpredictable environment of the marine mammals, while also acting as liaison between the administration and the divers of his team. As the representative of the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics at Towson University, he has learned to consider the needs of the student body, and to express those needs in an effective manner. Nathan’s involvement in SPS, physics, and his community has provided him with invaluable communication and leadership skills needed to successfully represent Zone 4.
