SPS Outstanding Chapter Advisor
University of San Diego
Chad Kishimoto is the advisor of the SPS chapter at the University of San Diego (USD), currently serves as the Zone 18 Councilor on the SPS National Council, and is an associate professor in the Department of Physics & Biophysics at USD. After completing his bachelor degree at Caltech, Ph.D. at UC San Diego, and a postdoc at UCLA, he was a freeway flier in San Diego – teaching at most of the higher-ed institutions in the county – before finding a permanent role at USD. There, has been fortunate to support amazing cohorts of students to resurrect the SPS chapter which has received the Blake Lilly Prize and has regularly been recognized as an Outstanding Chapter.
Dr. Kishimoto’s group of undergraduate researchers at USD studies neutrino astrophysics, probing the weak interaction in astrophysical environments. His students have presented talks and posters at a number of national meetings. In addition, he serves on the Local Organizing Committee for the Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP) 2024 meeting at USD and on the executive board for the Southern California chapter of the American Association of Physics Teachers (SCAAPT).
