It is crazy to think that there is only one week left in the entirety of this program. The summer has gone by incredibly quickly and I cannot believe that it is coming to an end.
I spent the majority of this past week finalizing details and finishing projects. I completed and reviewed the webpages, created a poster for the digital display case in the downstairs lobby to advertise the physical exhibit, and wrote an article for SPS about why the history of physics matters in relation to a case study with Abdus Salam. I also created coloring pages from photographs in the Emilio Segrè Visual Archives. These coloring pages, while very simple to make, are a great tool for advertising the collections of the Niels Bohr Library & Archives and engaging children (or even college students) with the history of physics in a creative manner.
The social media campaign for the Niels Bohr Library & Archives is another project that filled my week. Tori and I were tasked with creating posts for the month of July on Facebook and Twitter to showcase what we are working on and share what we have learned. I created four different posts that shared reasons for why the history of physics matters, with examples of physicists who exemplify these reasons. I also posted photos of the physical exhibit and marketed the animated videos that Tori is in the process of creating. Hopefully, this campaign will effectively engage more people in the Library’s resources and the history of physics in general.
I have also been working on my presentation, which will take place on August 4 at the American Center for Physics. Each intern will have ten minutes to share what they did over the summer and how these experiences have impacted them. This will be a wonderful opportunity to communicate to a larger audience why the history of physics matters and how I have spent the summer trying to engage people in the history of physics with different mediums.
As for living in D.C., this week has been much cooler than the previous. I was therefore more willing to go outside and explore the beautiful parts of the city. Pictures are included below. I know I will miss these parts of D.C. after I leave, but I am excited to get back to Colorado and see my family.
