SPS Outstanding Chapter Advisor
Drew University
Bjorg Larson earned a B.S. in Physics and Applied Mathematics from the University of Iowa, Iowa City and a PhD in Physics from Stony Brook University. She was a postdoctoral researcher at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where she worked on confocal microscopy for imaging cancer in human tissue. She joined the faculty at Drew University in Madison, NJ in 2012 where she is now an associate professor in the Physics Department.
Bjorg has been the SPS Chapter Adviser at Drew since 2017. During that time she has tried to allow the students to take the lead, and be supportive in any way possible. The Drew Chapter of SPS was recognized as an Outstanding Chapter in 2018-2019, as well as the Marsh W. White Award for proposing an outreach program. The chapter publishes two issues of the Dilated Times physics newsletter each year, which gives the students a chance to highlight their work during the year. Despite the fact that we are virtual this semester, the chapter has stayed vibrant by hosting virtual alumni panels, resume workshops, and homework hangout sessions.
