SPS Outstanding Chapter Advisor
South Dakota School Mines & Technology
Mr. Michael Dowding currently works as a full-time instructor of Physics at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and serves as the advisor for their Society of Physics Students chapter. He earned his B.S. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics, M.S. in Materials Engineering and Sciences, and M.S. in Technology Management from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Aside from teaching, Mr. Dowding also oversees all graduate teaching assistants, aids in department recruitment, and sits as a committee member for Masters and Ph.D. defenses.
Mr. Dowding’s students praise him as an essential facet in involving students in both club activities and community outreach. He plans monthly socials to network students and physics faculty. In addition, he organizes events at elementary schools where SPS performs physics demonstrations.
