Dr. Earl Blodgett is a professor of Physics and an advisor for the UWRF Chapter of the Society of Physics Students at the University of Wisconsin- River Falls. Dr. Blodgett has also served as the Historian for the SPS National Council since 2015. He received a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin- River Falls and has received both an M.A. in Physics and his PhD in Experimental Physics at Washington University. Dr. Blodgett’s willingness to always go the extra mile to fulfill his responsibilities and goals is reflected in the multiple awards and honors he has received in his career field. Not only did he receive the Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year Award at the University of Wisconsin- River Falls in 1998, but also the Outstanding Chapter Advisor Award for SPS in 2004, displaying his continuous dedication to applying himself to the best of his ability to the positions he holds. Dr. Blodgett has been a member of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) for many years and his interest in the field is further proven through the upwards of 25 classes he has taught throughout the duration of his time at the University of Wisconsin- River Falls.
Although Dr. Blodgett has an extensive breadth of involvement in the classroom, some of his largest impacts have taken place outside of his teaching role. His position in the UWRF Chapter of the SPS has been described as transcending the title of “advisor”, as he is described as a “a tireless advocate for the SPS students” and as having a “legendary” ability to connect with those he is helping. Whether he is guiding struggling students one-on-one (even during his lunch breaks) or leading an entire chapter of SPS to receiving the Outstanding Chapter Award, it all proves the description that Dr. Blodgett has earned a place “at the forefront of innovative and trailblazing instruction.”
