Peter Sheldon is Chair and Professor of Physics at Randolph College (formerly Randolph-Macon Women's College). Dr. Sheldon is the Director of the Center for Student Research at Randolph College. He is also Chief Reader of the AP Physics Exam for the Educational Testing Service. Dr. Sheldon has been Director of the Randolph College Science Festival since its founding in 2009. In 2013, the Festival had over 1500 attendees plus an additional 1200 entrants to its science-based poetry competition. Dr. Sheldon is the PI on a number of educational grants including an NSF S-STEM grant and a State Council of Higher Education for Virginia teacher quality enhancement grant. Dr. Sheldon does research on science education, on low temperature physics, and on inertial navigation. In particular, he is currently working on a book on the physics of roller coasters.
