Abstract Submission Guidelines
Abstracts should only be submitted once and preferably by the primary author. However, if the primary author is not able to attend the event, it is acceptable for another author to submit and present.
- Submission forms are available after participants register for PhysCon.
- While the presenter is the first author, enter all other author affiliations.
- Select one of the following categories that best describes the work to be presented:
- Outreach and Inclusivity Activities
- Your Sigma Pi Sigma Chapter Acitivities
- Careers and Corporate Internships
- 100 Years of Momentum
- Research categories:
- Astronomy/Astrophysics/Relativity/Gravitation
- Particles & Field/Quantum Foundations/Information Theory
- Statistical/Thermal/Non-linear/Complex Systems
- Nuclear/Plasma/Fusion
- Atomic/Molecular/Optical/Photonics
- Condensed Matter/Materials Science/Nano-Science/Surface
- Applied/Engineering/Energy/Other
(Works in progress are accepted!)
- Include a title.
- Abstracts are limited to 150 words and should fit in the text box in the form.
- For the best results, consider preparing the abstract as a document and then cut and paste it into the abstract template.
- Care should be taken when entering scientific symbols and/or equations.
- Submissions are considered final once completed so please review the copy and make sure it is accurate. Revisions are not possible.
- Authors should use due diligence to make sure that the abstract appears as it is intended, prior to submission.
- Notification of acceptance, which will include the presentation day and time, will be sent to the first author around two weeks prior to the Congress starting.
- Maximum (and encouraged!) poster size for SPS is 42 inches wide by 42 inches tall.
To Judge or Not to Judge
Do you want feedback on your poster from professional physicists? Do you want to be eligible for prizes? Or do you just want to present at the Congress to gain experience and share your work? Poster presenters can choose from the following options:
-
Just present. Submit your abstract on the registration form by September 19, then just print out your poster and bring it to PhysCon! This option will not be judged or elgible for prizes.
-
Recieve feedback and be eligible for prizes. Upload a .pdf of your poster AND a link to a YouTube video (no more than 5 minutes) of you presenting your poster by September 12. Your video presentation should be appropriate for a mid-level undergraduate audience with no expertise in your field. (If both the PDF and the video are not uploaded by the deadline, you will be re-assigned to Option 1.) Our fantastic volunteer physics professionals will review your poster and your presentation, providing detailed feedback. The highest-scoring poster presentations will be selected as “finalists;” on-site judges will visit the finalists at PhysCon and determine the prize winners.
Please note that all students submitting an abstract are expected to present in-person at the Physics Congress, regardless of the option they choose.
